Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is a delicate and meticulous procedure.
Dr. Carlos Saramago has dedicated himself exclusively to this type of treatment in Porto and the UK for over 19 years. Root canal treatment involves removing the dental pulp, disinfecting the canal system and sealing it, creating conditions for the body's defenses to do their job. This is an inflammation of the dental pulp or an infection associated with the dental canals.
Dr. Carlos Saramago, as an Endodontist, treats his patients with the aid of an Operating Microscope. To diagnose, he uses CBCT, which allows images that traditional X-rays do not. It works like a GPS, with a specific map of your tooth.

Endodontics with Microscope
Dr. Carlos Saramago treats his patients with the aid of an operating microscope.
The microscope in Endodontics allows you to see the smallest details within the access cavity of your tooth. It even allows you to observe and treat obstacles that are deep in the root canal system.
Visualization with the Microscope allows the possibility of removing separated instruments left in the canals in a previous Root Canal Treatment. The magnification used with the Microscope varies from 4 to 20 times!!
The Operating Microscope also helps in the diagnosis of root fracture, among other pathologies, and is absolutely essential in an Apical Surgery procedure.
Dr. Carlos Saramago uses the Operating Microscope 90% of the time during the procedure.
The Microscope facilitates, makes any Endodontic Procedure faster and more predictable.
Furthermore, it is essential for correct documentation of cases, namely due to the ease and quality of photographs and video acquired with magnification.

CT-Scan in Endodontics
This 3D imaging technology provides a detailed, three-dimensional reconstruction of a tooth's anatomy, which is a significant improvement over traditional X-rays.
Dr. Saramago utilizes this technology to obtain a comprehensive view of the tooth's canal system, helping to ensure a more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
The use of CBCT also benefits patients by reducing radiation exposure and sometimes eliminating the need for exploratory surgery.
The technology acts as a "GPS" for the tooth, allowing the detection of hidden infections or micro-canals that could compromise the success of a root canal.
In line with European guidelines, Dr. Saramago consistently requests a CBCT scan before any endodontic procedure to fully understand the complexity of the treatment.
